WHO WE ARE

Strong Future Maryland was founded by President Obama’s Education Secretary John B. King Jr. to help Maryland recover and rebuild from the COVID-19 crisis, the related economic downturn, and the centuries old crisis of systemic racism in an equitable and sustainable way.

The organization is spearheaded by Alice Wilkerson, a longtime legislative and policy expert, who serves as the Executive Director.

EXPANDING THE TABLE

Strong Future Maryland will partner with state and local leaders to include all Marylanders at the table of opportunity. The organization will help center the voices and leadership of those too often marginalized in the state, including Black, Latino, Native and Asian communities, LGBTQ+ people, and young people in making progress toward a better Maryland.

MEET OUR TEAM

OUR MISSION

Strong Future Maryland will work to advance bold, progressive policy changes to address systemic inequality and promote a sustainable, just and prosperous economic future for all Marylanders.

What’s at stake…

Maryland has the chance to lead the nation and serve as an incubator for innovative, progressive public policy. Our state can set a new bar for eliminating racial disparities, ensuring positive outcomes in our schools and other public institutions, and promoting economic mobility, healthy communities, worker protections, and good jobs in a flourishing, green economy. To accomplish this, we must expand access to opportunity for all Marylanders and mobilize their diversity, innovation, talents, and skills.

“Together, we can build a broad, courageous and inclusive statewide movement to fight for the more just future our children deserve – and move our state from recovery to dignity and prosperity.”
- Secretary John B. King Jr
